The Mortal Instruments TV Show | News, Rumors, Thoughts

So we all know by now that The Mortal Instruments is being turned into a TV Show after the movie wasn’t that successful.

I’ll just rundown through what we know so far:

  • We know it’s set to start production in May
  • Production starts in Vancouver
  • They’re doing casting right now, so look up auditions if you want to join! ( I kinda want to lol)
  • They apparently aged up the characters
  • Clary is an ART major
  • SImon is apparently an accounting student
  • It will air on ABC Family

Here’s what we’re going from:

First I’d like to talk about the name “Shadowhunters”, I don’t like it, I feel like this is an unpopular opinion but I feel like it’s a bit cheesy, maybe it’ll grow on me, but I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just call it The Mortal Instruments. I get that maybe they didn’t want to link it to the movie, but still.

The characters being aged up I don’t mind much, they’re trying to attract a larger audience, so I’m fine with that, and it’s not like they’re being aged up that much.

Clary being an ART student is also fine by me, because I think that had she not been introduced to The Shadow World (which would’ve been another good name for the show) when she was 16, then that’s most likely the major she would’ve chosen. As for Simon the accountant, I don’t know, I don’t really mind that much either, I mean I can see it as something regular old COB Simon would do.

Simon apparently has this girlfriend named Natalie and she’s part of the band, that actually doesn’t bother me either, I just hope they keep the story line that he’s still in love with Clary, because that’s really important to the story and his character. I hope they include the other members of the band too, especially Eric because his van comes in handy a couple of times, and he has o be Simon’s best friend at the end of CoHF.

ABC Family. I love ABC Family, I mean they air my favorite show Pretty Little Liars as well as The Fosters, and a couple other successful shows, so I think that a good network for it, because it already has a targeted audience watching it. Even the Pretty Little Liars and The Fosters fans who have never read or heard of the books will probably watch the pilot, so that was a smart move because both those shows have a strong fanbase. A lot of people thought it’d air on The CW, because that channel has been putting out some good shows lately, I mean The Vampire Diaries, The 100, Reign, Arrow, The Flash… I actually thought it’d air on Starz just like Outlander does for a little while.

I’m sad that we don’t get to keep the same Simon and Magnus from the movie because they were perfect.

Anyways, I really hope this show isn’t disappointing. I think it’ll do fine, and even though they’re making some changes, so far I think it’s on a good path, except for the technology part.

Leave your thoughts about all this below (:

  1. I thought the movie was pretty horrible, so hopefully it will do better on tv. I really did like the casting of Simon in the movie, so they have a lot to live up to in casting on that front, but I didn’t like Magnus in the movie. And the casting of Jace was AWFUL.

  2. I’m going to miss movie Simon and Magnus as well, but the rest of the movie casting ws pretty bad. I’m not sure how I feel about them aging up the characters. I just really hope they end up making an Infernal Devices TV show.

  3. I’m definitely interested in this show as a huge fan of the book series, however, I am also very nervous about how it will play out. Changes are not always beneficial to the storyline. A perfect example of ruined books was the Witches of East End show on Lifetime that was based on the spin-off of Blue Bloods by Melissa de la Cruz. I was so excited for that to come to life and they altered everything so much that it was more adult fantasy than YA novel to screen. My fingers are crossed for The Mortal Instruments series though, ABC Family usually delivers solid shows in their bracket.
