Grace Mae knows madness.

She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.

When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars, where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Escaping from Boston to the safety of an ethical Ohio asylum, Grace finds friendship and hope, hints of a life she should have had. But gruesome nights bring Grace and the doctor into the circle of a killer who stalks young women. Grace, continuing to operate under the cloak of madness, must hunt a murderer while she confronts the demons in her own past.

When I got the pitch for this blog tour I immediately jumped on board because this book sounds great, and I haven’t read that many thrillers. It’s also set in the 1800’s which is perfect, I love books set in the past. It’s also set in an asylum which was a bit of a different scenery for me, but I liked it!

Grace, our narrator was an interesting point of view to say the least. She’s a bit insane, but she’s an interesting voice. All the characters brought their own little thing to the story which was great.

The writing was beautiful, it flowed nicely throughout, and it was very easy to follow. It’s not a really short book, but it doesn’t feel long while reading it if you get what I mean.

There were twists in the story, which some I saw coming, some I didn’t, and I’m sure it’ll be that way for a lot of others too.

Overall, I really loved this, I don’t know how much more I can say without spoiling, but I highly recommend it, and she also wrote Not A Drop To Drink which is a series I’ve been wanting to get into, so if you enjoyed that then you might want to check out her other work (even though they’re really different)

One winner will win a Harper Teen Horror Themed Prize Pack which will include A MADNESS SO DISCREET along with a bunch of other horror themed Harper titles.
