Summary:

Sydney Sage is an Alchemist, one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets—and human lives.

In The Fiery Heart, Sydney risked everything to follow her gut, walking a dangerous line to keep her feelings hidden from the Alchemists.

Now in the aftermath of an event that ripped their world apart, Sydney and Adrian struggle to pick up the pieces and find their way back to each other. But first, they have to survive.

For Sydney, trapped and surrounded by adversaries, life becomes a daily struggle to hold on to her identity and the memories of those she loves. Meanwhile, Adrian clings to hope in the face of those who tell him Sydney is a lost cause, but the battle proves daunting as old demons and new temptations begin to seize hold of him. . . .

Their worst fears now a chilling reality, Sydney and Adrian face their darkest hour in this heart-pounding fifth installment in the New York Times bestselling Bloodlines series, where all bets are off.

Okay well this book was fantastic! First let’s talk about the cover. It’s not pretty, none of them are really but this one…. It would’ve been nice if it had just been Sydney on it, but they had to add a creepy looking Adrian in the background. I like the font and design used for the series, but the covers have been disappointing, just like with VA. That’s why I don’t own any of the Bloodlines books (except for Silver Shadows) in hard copy, because I’m here waiting and hoping that it’ll get a cover change, but a nice one (not like VA’s cover change, which wasn’t even an upgrade). I think I might have to get them anyways because it doesn’t seem like that’s about to happen. Back to the book, it was so good guys! The book was so fast paced, and I actually read it fairly quickly, The book is set in both Adrian and Sydney’s povs like before, and Syd is in re-education and those Alchemists are literally so horrible, it’s ridiculous what they put her through, they’re the evil, not the moroi. Then there’s Adrian which at the beginning he’s a bit frustrating, like I love him but I just wanted to slap some sense into him at certain points. I knew he was going to slip after the way Fiery Heart ended, and it actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it’d be, but I just felt like he was better then that. Page 156 is when things pick up, and I was hooked. I went to sleep at 2 am because the book was just too good to put down. There was a lot of character development especially regarding Adrian. Also Rose, Lissa, Dimitri and Christian made appearances, even though Christian did not say one single word, which was annoying because I miss him ♥ Rose, I loved a lot more in this book. The book was heartbreaking, beautiful, and everything I could’ve hoped it to be, and that ending! Guys, just stuff happens, in this book. I’m looking forward to The Ruby Circle next year, but then it’s also the last one, so I’m sad. I hope it gets a better cover though (: {probably won’t}

Spoilers

So the book starts off with Sydney in re-education. Those scenes were so heartbreaking. The we switch off to Adrian who’s in school taking finals. Adrian’s POV was also heartbreaking.

Sydney was taken off “reflection time” and sent to whatever that part was called with the other Alchemists. She then met Duncan whom I started to get suspicious of because of how nice he was, it was a situation where you couldn’t completely trust anyone. There ended up being something with him, the fact that his parents were really “powerful” Alchemists whatever, but I;m glad he was trustworthy in the end, and didn’t betray Syd.

Let’s talk about how awesome and badass Adrian was, like his powers were fantastic, what he did at that party, that was so cool! But then there was the night where Syd managed to block the gas in her room, and tha’s when he decided to drink, I was so frustrated omg. Then came page 156, when he got his stuff together (after Nina kissed him, which I saw coming) and he connected to her, and I cannot tell you how heartbreaking and beautiful that was, I cried so hard!

When they went to see Carly, I think there’s going to be a little romance brewing between Marcus and Carly, and I totally ship it.

Also guys who do you think that blonde girl with the glasses that came to visit Adrian was? I read in a comment on Christine’s booktalk that it was Alicia, that which from Indigo Spell which I don’t really remember, I have the e-book, not the physical copy but ill try and look at my notes if maybe I can find her. Was she the witch that Mrs. T’s sister used? Or something like that. I know she’s going to be relevant though, Richelle doesn’t do things at random.

After all the stunts, I knew Syd would get caught, and she did. But Adrian and the gang came to the rescue, and that was a beautiful rescue mission if you ask me. Then the fact that Chantal had been here all along, wow.

Then they went of course, and Sydney decided to not follow Marcus, which I understood, but still.

They went onto their little adventure, then when Adrian proposed! I understood why he was doing it even before he said so, but it was so beautiful. Their wedding was perfect. Adrian is honestly so amazing, he broke the scale. Then after the wedding, naturally the Alchemists were there waiting for them… When they got on that rooftop, that was epic. Then they went to court, that was also pretty awesome, and scary. I do know, that their life will have struggles, but I hope they get accepted by everyone.

Then came the ending! Jill got kidnapped! I think what’s going to happen is like with Rose in Last Sacrifice, she’s gonna almost die, and that’ll break the bond between her and Adrian. Also, I think that Alchemists are the one that took her, someone on IG pointed it out to me, and I think that’s accurate. They probably want someone else on the throne… I’m not going to underestimate those psychos. Anyways, I loved the book, it’s probably my new favorite in the series, my previous favorite being The Fiery Heart. I’m looking forward to The Ruby Circle ♥

What were your thoughts!? Let’s discuss (: xx
