ARC Review | Thrones and Bones: Nightborn

 Title: Nightborn

 Author: Lou Anders

 Series: Thrones & Bones #2

 Genre: MG, Fantasy, Norse Myth

 Page Count: 352

 Publication: July 14, 2015

Publisher: Crown Books for Young Readers (Penguin)

 Format: Physical ARC

Source: Sent to me by the publisher for an honest review. (The first book, Frostborn, was also sent to me for review purposes)

Since this is a sequel and I’ve never talked about the prequel on here before, I’ll include the synopsis for it first:

Meet Karn. He is destined to take over the family farm in Norrøngard. His only problem? He’d rather be playing the board game Thrones and Bones.

Enter Thianna. Half human, half frost giantess. She’s too tall to blend in with other humans but too short to be taken seriously as a giant.

When family intrigues force Karn and Thianna to flee into the wilderness, they have to keep their sense of humor and their wits about them. But survival can be challenging when you’re being chased by a 1,500-year-old dragon, Helltoppr the undead warrior and his undead minions, an evil uncle, wyverns, and an assortment of trolls and giants.

Twelve-year-old Desstra is in training to join the Underhand, the elite agents of the dark elves. But her graduation is jeopardized by the betrayal of a teammate. Things go from bad to worse when she is sent far from home on a secret mission, under the supervision of this same rival, whose approval she must win if she is to graduate and realize her life’s dream.

Karn is trading in the city of Bense, when he is snatched into the air by a wyvern. The creature carries him across the wilderness straight to the Blasted City, to Sardeth, home of the dragon Orm. Is Karn about to be a dragon’s dinner?

Fate doesn’t have anything so easy in store for him. The great dragon tells Karn he believes a second Horn of Osius exists, hidden across the continent in the city of Castlebriar. What’s more, Orm has previously sent Thianna Frostborn on a mission to recover the horn, but her wyvern returned without her. It seems Thianna has run afoul of the dark elves. Now Karn must rescue his friend and together they must uncover the horn before the dark elves get ahold of this powerful relic.

With only a dragon’s blessing to aid them and a mysterious riddle to guide them, Karn and Thianna must race the dark elves to a prize that could alter the fate of nations.

Okay, so I really enjoyed both of these books, this is a great series. When I first got the email asking for the review, what mostly drew me in was that it had Norse Mythology, and that fans of Rick Riordan would enjoy it. I mean, you all know how much I love Rick Riordan and his works, and he’s also coming out with a new series on Norse Myths so that was great too. I’ve been getting into Thor and all that fun stuff. Isn’t Loki the most amazing villain the world has ever seen, I love him so much.

Anyways, back to the books. They were both just such fun rides, honestly, you meet mythical creatures and have adventures, it was great. Our main characters in the first book are Karn and Thianna, Karn is obsessed with this board game called Thrones & Bones, and Thianna is pretty much a joke in her let’s say “pack”. She’s half human, so she’s only 7 ft tall as opposed to the other giants who are 15.  Karn has his things too, he’s the first born son so his role is to take over the family farm, but he doesn’t want to do that, he liked adventures, and his board games.

Evidently, something happens and brings these two characters together to fight for their survival. The adventure begins, there’s a task at hand and it’s up to them to accomplish it. I loved Karn and Thianna’s friendship development, and both of their character arcs throughout the novel. I think readers will love this, and they’ll also take something from it.

The story ended well, but also led into the sequel. This review is mainly supposed to be about Nightborn, but since it’s an ARC and a sequel I don’t typically write spoilers, so that’s why I talked about the first book more, because if I hadn’t then I would’ve spoiled it for you by talking about this one.

So in order to not spoil Frostborn, all I’m going to say is that the adventure continues, it picks up where it’s prequel left off. We meet new people, see old characters make a comback, there are other tasks, and the action is still there. It’s just as good.

Something else about these books, I love the pacing. You’re never really bored reading it, nothing is too short or too long, it’s just perfect.

I would recommend you read this series evidently if you’re a fan of the Percy Jackson series, if you’re into fantasy, and giants, and elves, and all those fun creatures.

Has anyone read this? Let me know your thoughts!

The Blood of Olympus by Rick Riordan | Review

Title: The Blood Of Olympus

Author: Rick Riordan

Series: Heroes of Olympus #5

Genre: YA, Fantasy, Greek and Roman Mythology

Publication: October 7th, 2014

Publisher: Disney Hyperion

Format: First, American Hardcover

Source: Purchased

Though the Greek and Roman crewmembers of the Argo II have made progress in their many quests, they still seem no closer to defeating the earth mother, Gaea. Her giants have risen—all of them—and they're stronger than ever. They must be stopped before the Feast of Spes, when Gaea plans to have two demigods sacrificed in Athens. She needs their blood—the blood of Olympus—in order to wake.

The demigods are having more frequent visions of a terrible battle at Camp Half-Blood. The Roman legion from Camp Jupiter, led by Octavian, is almost within striking distance. Though it is tempting to take the Athena Parthenos to Athens to use as a secret weapon, the friends know that the huge statue belongs back on Long Island, where it "might" be able to stop a war between the two camps.

The Athena Parthenos will go west; the Argo II will go east. The gods, still suffering from multiple personality disorder, are useless. How can a handful of young demigods hope to persevere against Gaea's army of powerful giants? As dangerous as it is to head to Athens, they have no other option. They have sacrificed too much already. And if Gaea wakes, it is game over.

This book has been a highly anticipated release for me, so I had very high expectations, and I’m glad to say, it met them. House of Hades left us, not really on a cliffhanger, but we knew that the battle would be happening soon. It was obvious, that Gaea would loose, just like Kronos lost in the original PJO series. I was very afraid as to which of the seven would die, because we were all sure that one of them would die, and the way it was all executed in the book was really amazing. There really isn’t much to say without spoilers, only that it was really good. If you guys haven’t read the Percy Jackson series, I really don’t know what to say, only that you need to get on that asap. If you’ve  read PJO and haven’t stated HoO yet, then please do, trust me. The first book isn’t as good as Lightning Thief but the series is really amazing.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Last Olympian |Review

imageFinished it yesterday (Wednesday) I don’t know when This will go up.  Anyway let me just say that I loved it. I know I said previously that The Titans Curse was my favorite of The Series, but not anymore, This one takes The throne (: in The end I will list them from favorite to least favorite, even though I loved them all but some more then others.

All I can say is that if you haven’t read this series yet, then definitely do ASAP. It’s amazing , the characters, the plot, the story, the journey you take, its all incredible. I can guarantee that there’s a 99% chance of you liking it. I have not come across a single person who dislikes this series. I hope you check it out (: x

Spoilers Ahead!

I had The physical copy to read This time So I couldn’t highlight but I put in a bunch of bookmarks on pages were there were things to talk about So here we go.
The book starts off with Percy and Rachel and they’re having fun; Rachel invited him to a vacation (horrible timing btw) and anyways when Beckendorf and Blackjack The Pegasus appeared that’s when The Battle begins; and that kiss Rachel gave him, that was cute The way she said

“If these two people liked each other, what would it take to get The stupid guy to kiss The girl, huh? “

I like Rachel She’s a nice girl and I would Ship them but Percabeth all The way. And besides she can’t be with anyone anyways, She’s The new Oracle.
So Beckendorf goes on to die, he sacrifices himself for something that was really unnecessary if were being honest. Then Silena his girlfriend was all upset and at first I did suspect her to be The spy, but after awhile she grew on to me and I liked her. In The end when it was revealed she was The spy, I felt a little betrayed but I still liked her and she redeemed herself and I was proud of her, I hope her and Beckendorf are happy and together now ❤
Okay So when Nico took him to The Underworld and had tricked him and took him to his Dad instead, I didn’t for a second doubt him, I honestly I love Nico he’s probably my favorite male character in The book; I mean dont get me wrong I love Percy but Nico he’s just so amazing, I can’t explain it. I usually fall for The dark sad tortured souls ones ,they’re perfect in my eyes ( Will, Adrian and now Nico ❤) So anyways I understood, he just wanted to know more about his family and who can blame him? The kid is all alone, he deserved to know The truth. Yes granted it was a bit naive of him to actually believe his Dad but Hey he’s just a kid, a very strong brave powerful and awesome kid but still a kid and everyone makes mistakes,  like not making him swear on The River Styx; Percy has made that same mistake numerous times So it’s fine. Then Nico came to rescue him and he was So upset that he’d lost Percy’s trust and I felt So sad for him but it all turns out alright (:
Oh after Percy bathed in The River, that badass fight he had with Hades army I was like you go Percy you go!  He’s amazing.

So when Percy went into the Hudson/East River and was having that conversation with the river gods,  that whole scene was pretty cool, and we found out what the sand dollar is for.

When Percy was gonna fight a ghost from the past aka The Monitor and he asked Annabeth if he gets a kiss for good luck because its a tradition now and she said ” come back alive, then we’ll see” that was just awe (:

Okay so the whole deal with Clarisse, I was so annoyed, like the fight that could end the world is happening and you decide not to join because you’re pride was hurt? It must of had been pretty hard considering she’s the daughter of Ares and all, she’s all about war. But I really do like Clarisse, she was a pain sometimes but she’s a likeable character. When Thalia showed up with the hunters, I was positive it was Clarisse; but I was glad it was Thalia, she’s great. When she actually showed up and after Silena died she was so mad which made her more badass, during Sea of Monsters she was just plain stupid and desperate, after that fight I like her better.  The end after the war was over and her dad was all proud of her, that was cute, she deserved it.

When Rachel showed up in the helicopter, and Annabeth flew it in the end , that was just wow. But after that when she got jealous it kind of got a bit annoying, I hate it when people are overly jealous- that’s what I hated about Nora from Hush Hush- but I felt like this one was one too many, at first it was cute, but there’s a line, and I think Rick realized too because after that she didn’t have another jealous moment and she was back to the Annabeth I knew and loved.

So let’s get to the really sad part. Luke died. I was sad because I really liked Luke, I had faith in him from the start, I liked movie and book Luke. In my eyes he also died a hero. When he asked Annabeth if she loved him and she said no , he was like a brother to her, I was yelling “LIES!” because maybe she really didn’t like that, but at some point she really believed she did. Anyways I really loved and will always love Luke Castellan, he’s a hero. RIP Luke Castellan- Son of Hermes.

The ending, that whole scene in Olympus when the Gods are thanking their childrens was just awe. Zeus is a scary dude but it’s obvious he cares for Thalia, which is more then I can say for Hades even though he said something nice about Nico at the end I don’t forgive him, he’s horrible. He’s one of my least favorites along with Hera and Athena ( she tried to be nice a little bit at the end so she gained points for that.) Everyone got promotions and I was so happy for Annabeth. So Percy got offered to become a God. I knew he wouldn’t accept but still wow, that’s a big deal! When he looked at Anna and she was on the verge of crying and he declined and she looked so happy, my heart burst (: And the end when he finally opened up about how he felt, and she kissed him! Then Clarisse showed up with the rest of the camp and they were like “FINALLY!!” I couldn’t have agreed more, then the underwater kiss which Percy thought and I quote ” And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time” oh that was perfect.

I loved the book, I really hope they continue with movies because this one in particular would make a fantastic  movie, it has everything.

The Percy Jackson journey has been an incredible one, and I can’t wait to continue on soon enough with the Heroes of Olympus series and start that journey later on (:

I rate the book a : 5/5

Now onto my favorites in order:

1) The Last Olympian

2) The Titan’s Curse

3) The Battle of The Labyrinth

4) The Lightning Thief

5) The Sea Of Monsters

Not to say I didn’t like The Sea Of Monsters, I loved it, just loved the others a bit more and so on.

If you have not yet read this series ( why are you still reading this? you just got major spoilers ) , then I strongly suggest you do. It’s amazing, you will be hooked, and it will definitely remain in your heart,  trust me, you shall never forget about Percy Jackson.

~ Happy Reading! From one Book Lover to another xoxo ~

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Battle Of The Labyrinth | Review/BookTalk

I finished The book last night and as expected I loved it. It was really great, I still prefer The Titan’s Curse So far but This isn’t too far behind it, it’s probably my second favorite.
In This book, Percy, Annabeth, Grover and Tyson go on a new quest to try and save The camp. It’s actually Annabeth’s quest; it’s also her first one.
Now Ill be going over specific parts in The book.
So The book starts off with Percy going to his new schools orientation at The end of June. The school also happens to be where his mom’s new boyfriend works. So as soon as Percy gets in he notices Rachel Elizabeth Dare who is The girl we met back in Titan’s Curse; So he tried to avoid her and goes in another entrance and runs into a couple cheerleaders who actually turn out to be something else. Okay when they turned – Tammi and Kelli- and Percy described them as “vampires ” I was like wait wait wait what, Im not sure ,correct me if Im wrong,  but I don’t think Vampires are part of Greek Myths, So when the story took that turn I was like no please c’mon don’t involve vampires into this, but turns out they weren’t vampires; they turned out to be “empousai ” servants of Hecate, and the vampires legend was based on them.

Some Grover has a girlfriend now 🙂 OMG that part let me quote it:

What’s wrong, Juniper?” Juniper sniffled. She wiped her silky sleeve under her eyes. “It’s Grover. He seems so distraught. All year he’s been out looking for Pan. And every time he comes back, its worse. I thought maybe, at first, he was seeing another tree.”
“No,” Annabeth said as Juniper started crying. “I’m sure that’s not it.”
“He had a crush on a blueberry bush once,” Juniper said miserably.
“Juniper,” Annabeth said, “Grover would never even look at another tree. He’s just stressed”

Okay I was laughing So hard at this, they were talking like dating a tree is a completely normal thing, which granted nothing about This Series is normal, but I just found This funny.

Let’s talk about Nico, I really love that kid.
Yea he was pissed at Percy and was trying to raise Bianca but I dont blame The kid. Even though Bianca abandoned him he still loved her and he wanted Percy to keep her safe and that didn’t happen. I never really believed he was mad at Percy for that, he was just upset. In the end he comes around and I really love him. Besides he’s the son of Hades like that’s super cool. His powers are soo cool, the children of the Big Three have the coolest powers; Percy with his control over The sea – that whole thing he did in the volcano that caused the eruption and all, that was pretty cool – Thalia we didn’t really see much of her powers but that quarrel with Percy in Titan’s Curse was also pretty cool, and Nico omg he’s just cool, his powers, he can talk to the dead which some people might find creepy but I find it cool, his whole power over the Earth as stuff. I feel like he grew up so much since Bianca died and his childhood got taken away from him because he’s still pretty young. That sucks but he’s badass and again, I love him and I’ll always root for him. I don’t know how he does in The Last Olympians and The Heroes Of Olympus Series but I hope he’s awesome and good.

Percabeth really started brewing in this book, when Annabeth opened her arms for a hug from him at the beginning after she hear her quest, then the kiss, then at the end of the book before he left, I felt like more could’ve had happened there but it didn’t but that’s okay; slowly but firmly.
Oh Percy’s trip to Ogygia , that was super sad. The girl Calypso she was so sweet, and I really felt for her; she falls for a bunch of guys who can’t stay with her. I would’ve shipped them had Annabeth not been in the picture; and I really hope and I really think that she gets her happy ending.
When Percy returned to camp after that and everyone thought he was dead, and Annabeth was starting to make her speech awe. Then she saw him and hugged him then she got mad because she was jealous and it absolutely blows my mind how oblivious man are tbh Even Chiron noticed it.
When Annabeth met Rachel again and they were talking about how it went at the school after Percy left and Rachel said:

They asked me a lot of questions about you. I played dumb.
Was it hard? Annabeth asked.

I was laughing so hard, Annabeth is queen and shes so cute when shes jealous.
The end when Poseidon came to his party and Percy was like it was the best birthday present he could ask for, that was so sweet; and then Poseidon goes on to tell him that he was his favorite son; melted my heart.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, just like the others. The Titan’s Curse is still my favorite, but this one is not too far behind it.
I rate the book a : 5/5
Its amazing, go check it out if you haven’t. Happy Reading!

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Titan’s Curse |Review

I finished The book a couple days ago and now Im halfway through The Battle Of The Labyrinth (it’s sequel) . Everyone told me This was their favorite of The Series and So far it’s mine too. It was just great, and also a quick read for me, like The others.
He met all 12 Olympians in This book.

My favorites personally are Apollo and Aphrodite.

Apollo is just The coolest he’s like a regular 19 year old kid. I mean when Percy said he had earphones at The meeting I was just like how much cooler can This guy get, he’s amazing, my favorite.

Aphrodite She’s just a cool chick I guess, I mean She’s The Goddess of Love So it’s hard not to love her I guess, she spoke of Percabeth and she just seemed cool even though The rest of The group said never to trust her. I don’t know what She’s sees in Ares though, I guess she likes The bad boys, I do too a little but The God of War is a little extreme (: .

Artemis  seems cool too. I can’t believe Thalia actually joined them but I get why she did it, I like her She’s cool.

Oh and let’s talk about Athena. What a disappointment she turned out. The way she talked to Percy and she was like ” Im proud of my daughter too but The other two are dangerous ” like Shut up. Then she goes on to tell Percy “I don’t approve of your friendship with my daughter ” I was laughing at that because it’s gonna be way more then a friendship. But still I was So disappointed, I’ve always admired Athena she was always my favorite before, she was So intelligent and just wow in my eyes, and her name was Athena like that’s such a perfect name. So I was very sad and disappointed in her for that.

Hermes is the second coolest probably. He’s great.

You know I have a feeling Luke is going to be turned good. I mean he’s escaped death way too many times to just simply die at The end of The Series. Also Annabeth said he was under Kronos’ spell So maybe there’s hope for him after all if he’s under spell. I’ve always liked Luke, even in The movie I liked Luke, So Im always gonna root for him because I have hope like Annabeth, let’s see if Im right :).
Oh and one more thing it’s pretty obvious that he cares alot for Annabeth and Thalia, I got The feeling that Thalia might of had liked him even more then just a friend, just like  Annabeth did, but I think he might’ve returned The feelings for Thalia, Im not sure, but if Im right then The fact that she thought he was evil and dead might’ve also influenced her choice to join The Hunt.

I rate The book a:  5/5 🌟

Im currently reading The next one and it’s also really good.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians : The Sea of Monsters |Review

I finished this book a couple days ago, and I actually just finished The Titans Curse which is its sequel, so I will be putting a review on that soon. As you probably know if you’ve read my review on The Lightning Thief (its prequel) I am really enjoying this series. All the three books from the series I’ve read so far have been quick reads for me. I also really enjoyed this book. I did watch the movie already so I knew some of what was gonna happen; I say some because the movie did change and leave out some parts of the book, but again if you’ve read it and seen the movie, you know all that was modified.

Since I read this in e-book format I highlighted some parts that I wanted to talk about in my review, so I will go on my phone and look at them now and discuss them.

The Bermuda Triangle” okay so this whole series is making me think my whole life has been a lie. It was interesting for me to find out that The Bermuda Triangle is actually The Sea Of Monsters; and The Bermuda Triangle is very real, so makes me start thinking….. what else is also real (:

When Hermes said he invented the Internet (: I laughed out  loud at that.

“Go to Tartarus” she said.

“That’ s when all Hades broke loose”

Both those weren’t said in the same scene but it was funny. I was just like really?… I really liked the humor in the book.

When Annabeth said that, it all clicked because I had read that part of The Odyssey before, and when they said the Cyclops was almost blind because of a previous hero, it started to come back to me but I wasn’t sure until Annabeth said the Nobody reference. I really love Greek Mythology and hopefully some day I’ll finish The Odyssey because I know its a very long story.

” I am Thalia , the girl said. “Daughter of Zeus”

I knew this was gonna happen because of the movie but it was still pretty cool. Now it could mean the whole prophecy was about her .( I’ve read The Titans Curse so I know what happens regarding her anyways but that’s for the next review) It would be so cool to be a demigod; I personally would like to be the Daughter of The Big Three, preferably Poseidon because I could somewhat control the Sea and Percy’s powers are literally so cool.I wouldn’t want Zeus because he seems meaner, but power over the sky sounds cool too. Also Hades because apparently that’s power over the Earth/Dead ( I don’t know too much about it yet) or Aphrodite because she seems cool, and she’s the Goddess of Love.

Oh and one thing about the movie, Kronos rose in that movie and I was waiting for it to happen in the book but it didn’t, I mean that’s a pretty big thing to change in the movie, I did find it interesting but still. I still enjoy the movies, they changed them a lot true, but it was still interesting. A lot of times what production companies do is make the movie so that it will please all the non-readers, which it does but a lot of the people going to watch it first are the readers, and if they’re disappointed then the movie fails; even though they didn’t really fail, they still made a lot of money in the end.

I rate the book a : 5/5 🌟🔱

I definitely recommend it to everyone whether you’re 10 or 20, I feel like a lot of audiences would enjoy this book, even though it’s a children’s book.

Percy Jackson And The Olympians: The Lightning Thief | Review

So I finally got to The Lighting Thief and I finished it in about 2-3 days. I had watched The movies before because it was on tv and I wanted to watch it. You know I loved That movie, but everyone else hated it and I can now see why, it was an amazing movie just a horrible adaptation; which has been pretty common. But The movie was still a great movie on it’s own. Im currently halfway through Sea Of Monsters and I’ve already seen that movie as well and I don’t think it was That much better then Lightning Thief, I mean by The second movie they shouldve realized and fixed their mistakes but That didn’t really happen and BTW movie Luke is So much more likeable and funny then book Luke, that’s why I really liked him in Lighting Thief and still in Sea of Monsters, I mean I still don’t really hate him in The books I mean for all I know  he might turn good later on :D.
And The beginning Annabeth had a crush on him I mean what did she expect to happen? The guys 19 and you’re 12 …..
But anyways I could stop and pinpoint a bunch of stuff that was different in The movie but I think you all know them already (:
Oh and can someone someone tell me when some Percabeth is gonna happen? I mean I know they’re 12 and all but still lol
I know it’s not in The first 2 books cuz they would include it in The movies.
But anyways I really really enjoyed The book, it was a fast read for me and So is Sea Of Monsters rn; ill probably finish it before The end of The day x
I rate it a:  5/5 🌟
Hope you have a great day:)
Happy Reading 😘
